Happy Birthday to Me!

Since Scott has yet to post to the blog... I guess I have to wish myself a Happy Birthday! Scott arranged a very fun birthday celebration last weekend for me with several of our friends. It was adults only except for one little friend Nate got to invite to keep him company for his 'movie night'. We played a hilarious newleywed type game and enjoyed great food and the most decadent cake! Nate had a hard time understanding why it wasn't his birthday party. As you can see, he was happy to help blow out the candles with me! I think he eventually caught on when people sang my name in the birthday song and not his!

Snack Post

Grant has really taken to this little console in my dining room! He takes his snack every day and sets up shop at his little snack post! I've tried to lure him to other fun spots like the kitchen table, porch, my lap etc... but he will not be swayed! He likes to dine in style....

Goodbye Summer!

"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me
there lay an invincible summer."
~Albert Camus

Our final beach trip of the summer (but surely not the year)! The boys have grown so confident in the water and love the ocean! Nate loves to go out as far as his Dad will take him and Grant loves to stay close to shore "jumping" the waves. Grant has even learned to say "beach" and will run and get his swimsuit at the mere mention of the word. This past week Nate took up boogie boarding and loved yelling "wipeout" once he had emerged from the surf and wiped his eyes dry! We will miss the beach life! I especially will miss the simplicity of the beach days. No schedule, no appointments, no responsibilities.... just hanging out on the beach until the boys got tired! This Friday Nate will begin preschool, Grant will start his "Moms Morning Out" group, and I will re-enter the world of church calling, cooking, driving, bookgroup, dr's apts, playgroups, travel planning, and all of the other crazy things I've committed to for the fall! I think I'll just try to pretend I'm still at the beach!!!

HOT Donuts Now!

Many of you may not be aware that Winston Salem is home to Krispy Kreme headquarters! Krispy Kreme was kind enough to give back to the community by building a donut factory inside our local Childrens Museum. The boys love going there weekly (we have a year pass) and feeding the donuts into the machine, wearing the Krispy Kreme uniform, and even getting behind the wheel of a miniature donut delivery truck! It's quite entertaining! The only downside is that I could potentially gain several pounds simply from the fact that Nate recognizes the Krispy Kreme logo now and if he spots a box of Krispy Kreme donuts in the grocery store he pleads and begs for them! Occasionally I guess I'll have to indulge him. :)

Sugar and Spice...

Yesterday Nate attended playgroup and had a blast playing with his favorite 'girlfriends' Ms.Jaynie, Lily and Jane. They are his favorite people to play with. They have invited him to tea parties, lathered him up in sparkly lotion and even let him play dress up with them. As he was going to bed he told me enthusiastically: "Mommy, when my hair grows longer, longer, longer than I am going to be a GIRL"! I asked him why he wanted to be a girl and he said it was so he could drink water at the tea party with the girls! I told him, much to his dissapointment, that he was a boy through and through. Needless to say, we decided it was time for a back-to-school hair cut today!

Life is down the drain...

Nate is only 3 but already sees the glass half empty! Today on the tire swing he was singing 'Row Row Row your Boat' with a few friends (as they pretended the tire swing was a boat floating over the waves) and he belted out the last line.... 'merrily merrily merrily merrily life is down the drain'!!

Lighthouses and Ice Cream!

We spent a wonderful week in Hilton Head in July with family! The beach time was so relaxing. The boys just loved to dig all day in the sand and became quite brave about going into the ocean by weeks end. I stayed on a for a few days after most of the siblings had left and enjoyed some down time with my Mom and Fely and of course my two little guys! One morning I took the boys on a little 'field trip' to the Harbor Town park to LOOK at the lighthouse. Once we go there, Nate declared 'I want to climb that lighthouse mommy... just like I did with Daddy last summer. '!! Seeing that it was 90 degrees and I was on my own with the boys, I had no desire to climb the 114 steps of the lighthouse! But Nate was so persistent, as most 3 year olds are... so a few minutes later I was hiking those lighthouse steps with Grant on my hip and my diaper bag over my shoulder! I was so proud of Nate for climbing the whole way up on his own! (I just couldn't have carried anything else!). You better believe I found someone at the top of the lighthouse to snap a photo of our great accomplishment! (see above). The boys also indulged in their favorite ice cream at Salty Dog Cafe called 'superman ice cream'. What a messy but delightful summertime activity! (And for those of you who have potty-trained, let's just say the blue ice cream turns everything blue, and that is very fascinating to a 3 year old boy!)
